The Bittersweet Food Company is the brain-child of Karen Convery. She set up the company to provide top quality catering in a domestic environment.
A native of Dublin, Karen’s food experience is wide and varied. She waitressed in Café Paradiso whilst studying Product Design in Crawford College of Art and Design. It was while working with the team in Paradiso that she found herself inspired by a passion for good food. On returning to Dublin she landed herself a job in Juice restaurant. This time she worked in the kitchen and it wasn’t long until she was running the show. A move to London saw her working as head chef in Mildred’s of Soho. Her next stop was Cornwall where she trained with the infamous Rick Stein in his flagship “Seafood restaurant.”
On her return, she worked as sous chef in Cavistons of Monkstown, followed by a stint with the award-winning Butler’s Pantry. She then worked with Domini Kemp in Itsa 4 in Sandymount once again as sous chef. Karen has also tutored at The Cook’s Academy in Dun Laoghaire.
In 2008 Karen worked on a couple of cookbooks:- The Cook’s Academy Cookbook “Recipes from the Cookery School” and Georgina Campbell's "From Tide to Table’ - Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Seafood by Georgina Campbell". The latter winning the Bord Bia Irish Food Book of the year award 2009.
Towards the end of 2009 Karen was Neven Maguire’s assistant on his new RTE TV series "Nevin Maguire: Home Chef" and also worked on Kirstie Allsop’s “Kirstie’s Homemade Christmas” a Channel 4 production.
